I don't have much time because it's almost bedtime. But here goes what I've been up to:
1. I had a picture day. It was fun. If this is somebody I know reading this, if you want a picture just call me if you have my number and tell me. Or leave a comment on my blog. My mom will send you one.
2. I taked (took) Initiative at school last week. I helped Amanda get her backpack ready. I saw that she needed help and helped her zip it. (Initiative is the word of the month at Meghan's school.) Mrs. Deckman wrote a note and guess what guys?! It goes into the drawing for lunch with the principal in the office.
3. I picked the biggest pumpkin at the pumpkin patch. (Says mom: 70+ pounds, that was a spendy pumpkin. In years past we've limited the size to the size of her head. We went all out this year!) My dad is going to carve a dog face on it. I did a cat last year.
4. I had a girl scout meeting today. I had so much a lots of fun. I was kind of shy because I didn't talk much. I colored a daisy with a yellow middle and the petals were colorful. I had a fashion show. I was the second one to walk. We also ate a snack and learned about Honesty and Fairness. I got to bring home a daisy flower and a new pencil. I will use it for homework. I already sharpened it.
Okay, Mom's turn. Meghan has been having tons of fun at school. It's so neat to go to wake her up in the morning and she's so excited to get up and start her day. I wish I was half as excited about work as she is about school! She has learned how to read a few words: go, my, I, a, the to name a few. We have been reading a lot. We just finished reading Ramona the Pest, by Beverly Cleary. It's about a kindergartener that gets herself into trouble pretty often. She's also doing well on her homework. She's getting better at staying focused. She's got a knack for math and gets it. The writing and following instructions on her other homework is a challenge for Kris and I at times. She wants to be more creative than the directions allow. She had to take 5 in her room to have a tantrum earlier today. She was supposed to write the names of the animals that were in the box. The word "bird" was a choice, but was not in the box. She was super ticked because she wanted to write the word "bird" because it was longer than "dog" and "cow". We offered to let her write "bird" on a different piece of paper, but you know Meghan. Once she gets something in her head, there's no telling her not to do it. I wonder where she gets that from?!
Meghan,
ReplyDeleteI hope you enjoyed reading
"Ramona the Pest"! Beverly Cleary was one of my favorite authors when I was in elementary school. And guess what?! She lived in Portland where I live. We have a school named after her AND at our neighborhood park there are life size bronze statues of some of the characters from her books - including Ramona. Maybe someday you and your mom can make a trip down here to Portland and I'll take you there.
Dear Meghan,
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you're having fun at school and girl scouts! You are a super busy girl! I like hearing about all the things you're learning. It makes me smile when I think about all the neat stuff you're doing. I think maybe I'll read Ramona and the pest, it's been a very long time since I've ready it but I LOVED that book when I was your age! Let your mom know that Alan, Moxie, and I would love a school picture of you when you get them. We love you LOTS!!
Wow, sounds like Kindergarten is a way cool thing!
ReplyDeleteLearning to read is absolutely fantastic because you can "meet" all kinds of people and "go" all kinds of places.
I didn't know you were in Girl Scouts. That's pretty cool, too.
I want a BIG SMILE picture!
